Century Flight Systems, Inc.

World Class Leaders In Auto Flight Systems

Century Flight Systems, Inc. has been manufacturing world-class autopilot systems and aircraft instrumentation since 1983.

There are significant improvements to be gained by updating aircraft with modern instrumentation and flight control systems. Century Flight Systems, Inc. continues to work diligently, bringing increased safety- and performance-enhancing technology to more and more aircraft.

Century 4000 Autopilot

Century Flight Systems understands the real world of the cockpit and knows how to transpose these conditions to reliable hardware. Now it's done in a way to allow each pilot the equipment needed to do the job.

Century 4000

As new requirements arise, functions can be added as desired to the expandable Century 4000.

To begin with, the main frame is the best designed autopilot built today fully worthy of the legacy of Century autopilots. The capture, track, soft-ride, and gust alleviation of this system are unparalleled!

Standard lateral axis features include Heading Hold, NAV intercept and track, fully coupled ILS approaches, localizer back course, VOR approach outbound intercept and track, lateral navigation steering and sequencing including en-route, terminal and approach segments with compatible GPS receivers providing ARINC 429 steering commands.

The pitch axis comes complete with trim prompting, pitch attitude hold, altitude hold, vertical speed select and hold, glideslope capture and track from above or below the glide slope and is fully capable of LPV and LNAV/VNAV approaches with compatible GPS WAAS receivers.

Automatic electric pitch trim, Flight Director or yaw damper expansions may be easily added to the Century 4000.

Options: The NSD slaved or non-slaved HSI system or other compatible HSIs may be substituted for the directional gyro. Altitude preselect and alerter is also available.

Century 4000 Specifications

Basic 2-Axis Trim Prompt

Panel Space 6.35 x 1.5 inches
Weight 8.2 lbs.
Power 1.5 amps nominal @ 14 or 28 VDC
Roll
The roll axis channel features continuous roll/nav/voltage monitors, heading hold, heading select, NAV (VOR/RNAV) /LOC/BC/LNV (GPS Steering), anticipative intercept and track, automatic soft track, auto 45-degree intercept, and all angle intercept with HSI.

Pitch
Pitch channel features altitude hold, attitude command, electronic altitude hold, vertical speed hold, G/S capture and track, proportional pitch trim prompting, control wheel steering, continuous pitch/GS monitors, and automatic pitch synchronization.

Automatic Pitch Trim Expansion

Panel Space No additional required.
Weight 2.7 lbs.
Power 1.1 amps nominal @ 14 or 28 VDC

The autotrim expansion adds automatic electrical pitch trim during autopilot operation and yoke mounted command electric pitch trim.

Flight Director Expansion

Panel Space No additional required.
Weight 0.4 lbs.
Power 0.3 amps @ 14 or 28 VDC
Flight Director
The flight director expansion computes the necessary roll and pitch attitudes needed to intercept and maintain headings, courses, attitudes, and altitudes. These computations are then displayed through the flight director horizon as steering commands, greatly simplifying instrument flight.

Yaw Damper Expansion

Panel Space No additional required.
Weight 2.8 lbs.
Power 1.9 amps @ 14 or 28 VDC

Yaw Damper
The Yaw Damper is a subsystem which enhances directional stability by reducing short-term oscillations in the yaw axis, therefore enhancing passenger comfort. In addition, it maintains coordinated flight during turns. The yaw damper is activated with autopilot engagement but may be operated independently. This expansion may be added to any package.

General STC Information

Autopilot and flight director installations are considered by the FAA to be major airframe modifications and therefore must be FAA approved. FAA approvals for these detailed installations in a particular aircraft model are made on either the airplane's Type Certificate (TC) or on a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC). The factory maintains a professional staff of engineering specialists whose sole mission is to obtain STCs. We continually evaluate the content of the entire General Aviation fleet of more than 200,000 aircraft for new STC possibilities in order to expand the base of STC aircraft approvals. At the time that the information in this section was published, there were over 1,600 STC aircraft applications - more than all our competitors combined. We are adding to the list of STCs on a regular basis.

What to Do If You Don't Find the System You Need

If there is no STC approval listed for your aircraft, you may wish to contact the factory Sales Department. We'll tell you if we have added that STC aircraft approval to our list, or if we have plans to do so.

STC Approval Policy

Negotiations for aircraft STCs are arranged between aircraft owners and the factory; however, dealers are encouraged to assist in obtaining STC aircraft because it increases the opportunity for many future installations at the dealership. If you have a customer interested in supplying an aircraft for an STC, please contact the Sales Department so that we may make specific arrangements.

Points to consider when selecting a plane for STC approval:

  • Properly operating radios (comms and navs)
  • Marker beacon
  • Transponder
  • Encoding altimeter
  • Acceptable compass system
  • NSD heading system (preferably installed by Century Flight Systems, Inc.)
  • Good airworthy condition
  • Current annual
  • No ADs
  • Good engine(s) and tires
  • Aircraft and engine log books onboard
  • Radio station license and current registration

We will handle the specific terms and conditions with the STC Program participant. We do not engage in any outside autopilot STC arrangements and do not encourage our dealers to accept any responsibility for attempting individual STCs.
